If you’re familiar with the original Arizer Air, you’ll recognize a lot of what the Air SE has to offer and what new things it brings to the table. Let’s dive in and see how this vaporizer stacks up in this highly competitive market.
Quick summary
The Arizer Air SE will be one of my top recommendations for newcomers. It’s extremely affordable, easy to use, and doesn’t require too much knowledge of vaporization to get the hang of. It’s not a new, cutting-edge addition to the vape scene however. It recycles the now discontinued Arizer Air and makes a few minor changes, but keeps the same signature quality that you’d expect from the Arizer name.

The Arizer Air SE doesn’t present any new technology or features but is great for beginners and newcomers. If you’re new to the scene and want something cheap yet highly effective, this is a great choice.
Clean, tasty vapor
Arizer is known for consistent excellence across all of their vaporizers and the Air SE keeps that train rolling, despite it being their cheapest vape to date. Its internal ceramic heating element efficiently cooks your herbs with both conduction and convection heat and then delivers the results through an all-glass vapor path for smooth, flavorful hits.
Its tighter airflow and slower paced, easy-going sessions allow you to really engage with and be mindful of the session at hand and the experience it presents, which is both warm and delicate, but strong at the same time.
Over an hour of session time
Battery life is something that many users pay close attention to and the Air SE has a respectable showing. I got about seven 10-minute sessions per charge which granted me a little over an hour of session time. It’s not the best out there but it’s plenty enough for me and my needs.
Replaceable battery and passthrough charging
A huge benefit of the Air SE are the two solutions it provides when your battery is empty. It comes with one user-replaceable/rechargeable 18650 battery that you can easily swap in and out when you’re on empty. My favorite, however, is its passthrough charging capability which allows you to use your vape while it’s charging. I didn’t always have a spare battery around so it was great being able to plug right in and fire it up without any hiccups.
The charge port, though, is located on the bottom and that’s the only minor downside here. If you’re using it while it’s charging, you’ll have to set it down on its side instead which isn’t a huge deal, but it makes you wonder why they changed it in the first place.
Build quality
The Air SE’s construction sees the biggest change with this revamp. The original Air sported a brushed metallic finish and a slightly heavier build. The Air SE, with an updated polymer construction, feels lighter and cheaper in the hands.
It’s durable and still looks sharp but you can definitely tell this is where they shed a lot of weight, both literally and figuratively. With the way the new battery compartment is set up, the plastic squeaks when you grip it hard which kind of perpetuates that cheap feel. Other than that and its lighter weight, the overall quality remains the same.
Made for dry herbs
The Arizer Air SE is made for dry herbs only. There are no secondary pads or pod systems and it doesn’t get hot enough to effectively vaporize it. It’s possible to ruin your vape if you’re not careful so we recommend you don’t try it at all and just stick to dry herbs only.
Heats up in around a minute
Heat up time is nothing amazing. The Air SE gets up to the highest temperature in under a minute from cold, and even quicker once it’s already warmed up. Most of my sessions, starting from cold, got up to temperature in just under a minute with a half to full battery, and just a little over a minute as the battery started to drain. Vapes we consider fast heat up in around 30 seconds or less, but the Air SE didn’t feel super slow. I’d heat it up and set it down, then prep my herbs, really taking my time, and once I was ready, so was the session.
As you’ll read on, this vaporizer is for slow, easy-going sessions. If speed is paramount, then 60 seconds might feel like an eternity and you’ll want to consider that if that’s an important factor for you. Otherwise, the heat up is okay.
Two buttons, two lights, five temperatures
The Arizer Air SE’s controls are simple. Click and hold both buttons together until it beeps and turns on, and then use those two buttons to select a temperature. It’s easy but you won’t know what any of the lights mean until you open up the manual. One light tells you your current temperature setting and battery level when you turn it on. The other light flashes when it’s heating up and turns solid when it’s ready to hit.
Nothing will beat a full LED screen that gives you information like exact temperature and battery level/percent, but if you don’t really care about that, this system works. Over time, once you spend a lot of time with the Air SE, you’ll quickly memorize what each temperature setting is and setting up your sessions will be quick and easy.
Let’s put it this way: If you’re familiar with PAX’s similar controls and you like that style, you’ll feel comfortable with the Air SE. On the other hand, if you want detailed session information and want a little more control over your sessions, you may feel limited by this setup.
Long, 10 minute sessions
Sessions are long and relaxing with the Air SE. Out of the box, the Air SE grants a full 10-minute long session from the time it hits temperature and then automatically shuts down once it’s done.
My style of vaping takes a slow, more easy-going approach. I like to take a sip or two, set it down and wait, and then come back to it if I’m feeling it, so the more time I have in a session the better.
I’m more of a battery miser when it comes to vapes that struggle in this area and try not to leave them on too long, but the Air SE’s solid battery performance and long session timer alleviate this pretty well.

A few minor downsides
It’s hard to complain about this vaporizer when it’s less than $100, but it does have a few minor downsides. For example, the original Air had an easy screw-top lid for the battery compartment, but the Air SE’s compartment requires you to push and slide off half of the plastic shell which I found more difficult. The original Air also had the charge port on its side so you could stand it up while it charged. The new Air puts it on the bottom of the unit instead.
The light indicators are an improvement over the original, which were just dots before, but still aren’t crystal clear when you first pick it up. I needed the manual nearby for the first few days to understand what temperature I was on and what the battery level was at.

For best results
For great sessions, pack the glass stem full with a medium to medium-fine grind and give it a soft tamp. Just enough to flatten the pile of herbs down. Insert the glass mouthpiece and then fire it up to heat soak your herbs. When it’s ready, give it light, soft puffs of a few seconds and then exhale. The Air SE performs best with softer sips, so don’t rip it hard. Just slow it down, take your time, and enjoy the session.

Easy maintenance
The glass stem is the main piece to keep up with and clean. When it starts to get nasty, just soak it in a bit of rubbing alcohol to remove the gunk, rinse, and dry. The oven will catch debris and get it a little sticky so hold the vape upside down and wipe it down with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.
After each session, take a brush and clear out the stem and oven while it’s still warm to keep it fresh for longer.

The Arizer Air SE is the perfect vaporizer for those looking to dip their toes into the world dry herb vaporizers. It’s cheap, simple to use and understand, and doesn’t require a lot of know-how to maximize its benefits. Sessions are effective and the vapor quality is stellar so you’ll be in good hands while you get your feet wet.
Who’s the Arizer Air SE not for?
The Air SE is not for a few types of users. If you already own an Arizer portable vaporizer, I don’t see a reason to pick up the Air SE. It’s just a cheaper, reskinned original Air with a few minor updates, but it performs just the same. The other Arizer portables are all steps ahead of the Air SE so this wouldn’t be an upgrade in any way.
If your usage demands big, massive clouds out of your sessions, this vape is not for you. The Air SE is specifically made to thrive in softer, gentler environments. It won’t keep up with long, hard drawn hits and you’ll likely find yourself plowing through multiple bowls before you hit your sweet spot.

The Arizer Air SE is a straight copy of the now discontinued original Air with a few key updates and the same great vapor. Both vapes grant 10 minute-long sessions but the Air SE gets up to temperature quicker than the original – 60 seconds vs 90 seconds. The Air SE also utilizes a more accessible micro-usb charge port over a barrel port and, like I mentioned earlier, puts it on the bottom of the vape instead of keeping it on the side.
Its updated polymer shell makes it slightly lighter than the original which had a brushed metallic finish that felt really solid in the hand. The Air SE feels like it’s cheaper. Vapor is consistent and effective across both of these devices but the Air SE delivers it at the lowest price.
Conclusion
It’s hard to complain about the Arizer Air SE as a lighter user. It’s slow and easy going and performs great for my needs. It’s not for everyone, especially if you already have an Arizer portable that you like or consider yourself a heavier user, but for its target audience (lighter users and beginners), it does the job perfectly.
If you were hoping for a new, state-of-the-art Arizer product, unfortunately, this isn’t it. Its biggest selling point is its entry-level price. It doesn’t showcase any new updates to the overall session but, more importantly, it makes dry herb vaporizing more accessible and affordable to the masses.
